The Home Secretary,Theresa May, is considering the use of water cannons to deal with protesters. But the evidence from Germany is that far from being a non lethal weapon they can cause terrible injuries as this photo shows.
The protester in this picture, 66-year-old Dietrich Wagner, could remain blind for life after being hit in the face with a water cannon at a protest in Stuttgart a few weeks ago.
